What Is Composite Decking?
Composite decking products are human-made materials made from a mixture of recycled wood fiber and plastic. They are manufactured to look like real wood while offering improved durability, reduced maintenance, and better resistance to outdoor exposure compared to traditional lumber.
Composite Decking Cap Types
Non-Capped
First-generation composite decking with no cap or outer layer, leaving the core unprotected and more vulnerable to fading, scratching, crumbling, and damage.
Capped Layer With Wood Powder
This type includes a cap, but the outer layer contains exposed wood powder, making it prone to many of the same issues as non-capped decking.
Capped Halfway
Half-capped decking has better top-side protection, but the exposed bottom can absorb moisture, which may cause cupping, twisting, cracking, or core separation.
Completely Capped With Routed Groove
Although capped on the top and bottom, exposed routed grooves can allow moisture and other elements to enter the board.
