Radiata Pine grows fast and straight in vast managed plantations in Chile and New Zealand. In Chile the trees are harvested young and used primarily for paper goods, while cut blocks of clear pine are joined together to create long and stable boards and moldings suitable for painting and decorative used. In New Zealand, the trees are given more time to grow, allowing mills to produce high grade boards which are more perfectly clear than can be obtained from pine species in the States.
Radiata is somewhat stronger than Eastern White Pine but less hard than Southern Yellow Pine, making it a good choice for trim boards and moldings where enhanced sturdiness is desirable but easy workability still valued.
